What this article covers
Note: This is an operational overview, not legal advice. Always verify the current national implementation and the requirements applying to your store.
The EU rule goes beyond a simple link
Directive (EU) 2023/2673 adds an online withdrawal function to the consumer framework for relevant distance contracts concluded through an online interface. Article 11a addresses clear labelling, prominent and continuous availability during the withdrawal period, information that identifies the consumer and contract, a confirmation action and acknowledgment on a durable medium. Scope and timing must be read in the full text and in each country's national implementation. Read the directive on EUR-Lex.
Two request types, not three forms
Withdrawal is the customer's legal notice. A complaint concerns an alleged defect and remedies for non-conforming goods. Returning goods is not a third customer request, but a possible physical and logistics outcome of either withdrawal or a complaint. A shared entry point can therefore offer two choices, with questions, statuses and next actions matching the selected process.
Two routes, one overview
Why the button is not enough
A button makes the process discoverable. It does not automatically identify an order, distinguish withdrawal from a complaint, detect duplicates, create an audit trail or assign work. Without a case workflow, a new digital entry point simply becomes another inbox the team has to sort manually.
National implementation still matters
An EU directive is implemented through national law, so wording, effective dates and detailed application can vary. Before publishing legal copy or changing customer terms, check the current law and guidance in every market where your store operates. INFLO Contract Withdrawal supports the operating process; it does not replace that legal assessment.
Operational checklist
Where INFLO Contract Withdrawal fits
INFLO Contract Withdrawal is a separate post-purchase tool. The customer intake can be deployed as a tab, button, embedded form or direct link. A case is then created in the INFLO portal and managed through statuses, deadlines, history and status emails. The first release will focus on online withdrawal; we are preparing a separate complaint process as the next step. Returning goods can be an outcome of either process and will not be a separate customer option.
Frequently asked questions
Is withdrawal the same as returning goods?
No. Withdrawal is a customer request type; returning goods may be a follow-up step or outcome. It may also be an outcome of a complaint.
Is a complaint the same as withdrawal?
No. A complaint concerns an alleged defect and uses a different workflow.
Does a form guarantee legal compliance?
No. Good intake and workflow reduce operating errors, but the legal setup must be verified for the market and case.
